Our origin

A few years after HGZ (Holzgas-Generatoren Zürich) was founded in 1937, the first filter devices for the catering industry were developed under the leadership of company founder Heinrich Gertsch.

In the 1960s, we produced multi-group piston and filter coffee machines under the name "Royal". The product range was expanded in 1970 with the takeover of "Rex", the Swiss manufacturer of fully automatic machines.

In 1975, the first fully automatic coffee machines began to be produced under the brand name Rex-Royal.

The company has grown steadily since being taken over by Peter and Verena Sager-Gertsch in 1982. This growth has been characterised by technical developments. During this time, the first dry discharge with Supermondo Dry and a new, patented brewing unit were developed.
